В предисловии директора ОИЯИ академика РАН Алексея Сисакяна отмечается, что издание английского варианта книги стало крайне необходимой публикацией, выражается уверенность, что она будет встречена благоприятно представителями многих поколений учёных во всём мире.
The English version of the book was published by Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna (2010) and was presented at Imperial Colledge of London University on September 13, 2010.
I was very much impressed when I read the Russian version of the book by Y. Khaliullin about the life of Prof. Abdus Salam. I found it most useful as well as instructive for a wide audience of readers, especially for the young generation in Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union (USSR). Professor Salam maintained very friendly relationships with many outstanding scientists in the world. I am convinced that the book about Abdus Salam's life in the broad sense of this word, published in English, is highly needed and will be well accepted by many generations of readers all over the world.
Alexey Sissakian,
Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna, November 2009 This small book of a Tatar scientist and diplomat about the life and scientific work of Prof. Abdus Salam, one of the greatest physicists of the past century is, to my mind, of undoubted interest both to scientists and young researchers and to representatives of broad public circles.
A.M.Mazgarov, With great interest I read the handwritten copy of this book about the outstanding physicist of the second half of the 20th century Abdus Salam, with whom my father, Academician N. N. Bogolyubov, maintained friendly relations based on their creative activities. According to the author of the book, it was under the advice of N.N. Bogolyubov in 1971, which was long before receiving the Nobel Prize that Abdus Salam was elected a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and later on awarded the Lomonosov Gold Medal of the Academy of Sciences. I am absolutely sure that being published under the protection of Abdus Salam ICTP, the book about its founder will find its interested readers in Russia and in the countries of CIS, most of which have the status of developing countries and are sorely in need of new scientific workers, also in the mentioned International Centre.
